Vol. 64 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyvourney Training College.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether he is aware that a strike exists on the work that is being carried out by contract for the new Preparatory College, Ballyvourney, and how long the strike is in existence, and whether he has taken any steps to bring about a settlement thereof.

The Minister is aware that a strike has been in existence on the work at the new Preparatory College at Ballyvourney since the 11th August last, but he does not propose to intervene in the dispute, which is one between the contractor and his employees.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that as a result of the recent bad weather, the wooden portion of the roof has been seriously damaged, and will he not consider the advisability of getting the Department of Industry and Commerce to intervene?

Every matter in relation to it will have full and adequate consideration.

Is it not usual when a dispute takes place, for the Department of Industry and Commerce to be asked to send down a representative to try to settle up any differences? Why has not that precedent been followed in this case?

Will the Parliamentary Secretary now undertake to try to bring the parties interested together, with a view to having a settlement brought about?

If and when we can use fully help, we will help.
