Vol. 64 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dun Laoghaire Pier.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the conditions at Dun Laoghaire pier; if he is aware that more than 100,000 extra passengers, over that of 1934, arrived and departed from the pier in 1936, and if the conditions of the pier will be improved; also if he will state to what purpose the fees paid by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and the Great Southern Railways Company, are devoted.

The attention of the Commissioners of Public Works was drawn to certain statements appearing recently in the Dublin newspapers regarding conditions at the Mail Boat Pier at Dun Laoghaire Harbour, and they satisfied themselves that the arrangements in force for dealing with the maintenance and cleanliness of the pier—for which they are responsible— are adequate.

The Commissioners do not keep a record of the number of passengers arriving at or departing from the pier.

The fees paid by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company and the Great Southern Railways Company in respect of Dun Laoghaire Harbour are treated as part of the appropriations-in-aid of the Vote for Public Works and Buildings, out of which the cost of maintaining the harbour is met.
