Vol. 65 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Laoighis Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have yet acquired the lands of Lord Castletown, Grantstown, Ballacolla, County Laoighis; and, if so, whether a division scheme will be put into operation within the next few months.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have not yet acquired the untenanted lands of Lord Castletown at Grantstown. His objection to acquisition was heard by the Land Commission on the 27th January of the present year, and judgment reserved. In addition to the proceedings for the acquisition of untenanted lands, two holdings of tenanted land on the estate of Lord Castletown have been resumed by the Land Commission. One of these holdings, comprising 74 acres of the lands of Court, has been already divided, and a scheme for the division of the other holding, comprising 31 acres of the lands of Oldglass, is in course of preparation.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is he aware that this case has been under consideration by the Land Commission for the past ten years, and can the Minister now say when, if ever, a judgment will be given?

Mr. Boland

That is a matter for the Land Commission. As I have said, the case was heard on the 27th January of the present year. That, however, is a matter for the Land Commission to decide. It is not a matter for me to decide.
