Vol. 66 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing on Gormanstown Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the investigation undertaken by the Land Commission into the complaint that the contractor erecting a number of houses on the Gormanstown estate near Balbriggan failed to observe fair conditions of employment has been completed; whether it has been ascertained that the contractor in question paid the tradesmen and builders' labourers employed by him less than the district rate of wages, and whether he will indicate the steps that have been taken to secure that the fair wages clause inserted in the contract will be complied with, and that the workers will be paid the sums due to them in accordance with the terms of the fair wages clause.

The Land Commission have not yet completed the investigation referred to. When it is completed, the Deputy will be notified directly as to the result.

Will the Minister have his inquiries completed before the official certificate is issued to the contractor that he has observed the fair wages clause?

Mr. Boland

That will be seen to.

Very good.

Mr. Boland

The Deputy will be informed if the terms of the fair wages clause have not been observed.
