Vol. 66 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Coal Seams.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he received representations urging that an inspection be made of the coal seams adjacent to Glin, County Limerick; whether he has arranged for the carrying out of such inspection, or, if not, whether he will state what steps he proposes taking to ascertain if the seams in question can be worked satisfactorily as a commercial proposition.

I have not received recent representations in regard to the coal seams referred to. A revision of the geology of the area has been in progress but is not yet completed. In my opinion, any person seriously contemplating the commercial development of the area should await the completion of this geological examination before entering into any commitments.
