asked the Minister for Finance if he can state for each month in each of the calendar years 1935 and 1936 (a) the number of standard barrels of stout or porter imported into Dublin; (b) the quantity of such imported stout or porter exported, and (c) if he can give any estimate of the quantity of this stout or porter which entered into consumption in this country.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Stout or Porter.
As the answer includes a tabular statement, I propose to circulate it with the Official Report.
The answer is as follows:—
Separate statistics of the importations and re-exportations of stout and porter are not compiled. Statistics are compiled under the Import List description of ale, beer and porter. Stout is included in that description.
The importations of ale, beer and porter (including stout) into, and re-exportation of the same goods from, the port of Dublin in each month of the calendar years 1935 and 1936 are given in the following table:—

It is to be noted that ale, beer and porter (including stout) are not always re-exported in the same month as that in which they are imported. Some of the importations in the last months of 1936 were re-exported in the early months of 1937. It is estimated that the quantity so re-exported was approximately 6,500 standard barrels.
It is estimated that, of the quantity of ale, beer and porter (including stout) imported through the port of Dublin in 1935, 25,700 standard barrells were retained for home consumption in this country, and that the quantity so retained in respect of the importations in 1936 was 29,000 standard barrels.
