Vol. 67 No. 14

Committee on Finance. - Report Stage.

I think we will be ready for the Report Stage by Wednesday. I expect we will have the amendments then ready. I take it that the Chair has agreed that the Order will be that we will take the amendments, get clear on the English amendments, and then that the Irish text will be dealt with.

I have circulated a memorandum to the Deputies to that effect.

Up to what time can amendments be handed in for the Report Stage?

Up to mid-day on Monday, for the convenience of the Office. The procedure memo will be circulated to the Deputies.

I would like to bring the Irish text into conformity with the English text, and then we can have some discussion about their parallelism. There may be questions raised as to whether the Irish text expresses exactly the same meaning as the English.

The President is not proposing to have the Irish text by Wednesday?

I think it would be a mistake to do that because we would have to put the amendments into it, and it would be much better to wait until we have the Reported English text.

Am I to understand that in the case of the Irish text linguistic amendments will be in order but not amendments of substance?

Yes, linguistic amendments.

Report Stage fixed for Wednesday, June 9th.

The Dáil adjourned at 4.30 p.m. until Tuesday, June 8th, at 3 p.m.
