Vol. 69 No. 6

Written Answers. - Acquisition of Westmeath Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the lands of Williamstown (Bond estate), near Moyvore, County Westmeath, have been repeatedly offered to the Irish Land Commission over a period of years; that these lands have been inspected; that 120 people claimed portion of the lands and turbary rights; that several people were interviewed about it, and if he will state when it is proposed to acquire and divide these 750 acres of land and bog.

Mr. Boland

Following an intimation that Mr. Walter W. O'Beirne, the tenant of the lands referred to, which comprise an area of 757 acres in the townland of Williamstown on the Bond estate, was willing that his holding might be resumed for division, an inspection was made of the lands with a view to ascertaining their suitability for that purpose. Certain matters of detail arose but these have now been disposed of and the Land Commission have decided to apply to the Appeal Tribunal for leave to resume the holding. The application will be made at the earliest possible date.
