Vol. 74 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report of Prices Commission on Bacon.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce why, when the report of the Prices Commission on Bacon was being circulated three months ago, it was sent to certain Deputies and not to others.

The report of the Prices Commission has been circulated to all Deputies.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is he aware that on 15th February, 1939, he is reported in column 436 of the Official Debates as saying that the Prices Commission "made a full investigation with regard to the bacon position and published a report on it. That report was printed and delivered free of charge to Deputies —to Deputies who are now asking what did the Prices Commission do about bacon last year. It is not three months since Deputies got that printed report delivered to them through the post"? I want to know, if that report was delivered three months ago to certain Deputies to whom the Minister referred, why was it not delivered to all Deputies?

The Deputy quoted me as saying that it was not three months ago since the report was delivered.

I want to know, if the report was circulated to Deputies before the day on which the Minister was speaking in this House, why was it not delivered to all Deputies?

The report was sent to all Deputies at the same time.

I want to know, if the Minister circulated this report to certain Deputies in this House before the occasion on which he spoke, and to which I have referred, why was it not circulated to all Deputies? Is the Minister prepared to answer that?

I have answered that.

Is the Minister prepared even to apologise?

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is it correct that the Minister recklessly stated in public what was not true; that in fact he had circulated the report to no Deputies, and that the report was not in print on the occasion upon which he was speaking?

The Minister is not prepared to answer

The Deputies were all wrong, anyhow.
