Vol. 74 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rushbrooke Docks.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the importance of Rushbrooke Docks in Cork Harbour as a factor in any scheme of national defence; that, if this country is to maintain its exports and imports in time of war, it is essential that ships engaged in trade should have a docks of the capacity of Rushbrooke in which repairs could be effected; if he has received a resolution from the Cobh Urban Council recommending the taking over of these docks; and, if so, if he will state if such a proposal is under consideration by his Department, and when a decision on it is likely to be reached.

I understand that the docks referred to in the Deputy's question are private property. I received a copy of a resolution passed by the Cobh Urban District Council and am fully aware of the natural advantages and buildings available in Cork Harbour as a whole, but there is no project at present under consideration in my Department for the use of these facilities.
