Vol. 76 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rabbit Pest.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what steps he proposes to take to deal with the rabbit pest, in view of the fact that these animals are becoming every year more numerous and destructive.

The most recent information furnished to my Department indicates that the number of rabbits in the country as a whole has decreased as compared with previous years. In some districts where it would appear the measures taken for the destruction of rabbits were ineffective, the number has increased. I am not satisfied, however, that the present position generally is such as to necessitate special measures.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, Sir, does he believe that the rabbit pest has decreased in this country?

In this year?

Is the Minister aware that there has been a tremendous increase even since last year and that they are a far greater pest than last year?

What is the percentage decrease?
