Vol. 78 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ticknevin Peat Fuel Factory.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is yet in a position to make a statement relative to the reopening of the peat fuel factory at Ticknevin, the closing of which resulted in the dismissal of upwards of 200 employees some time ago.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question which he addressed to me on the 18th October last, to which I have at present nothing to add.

Would the Minister say now definitely whether it is to be taken that this peat fuel factory is to be reopened? Many people still believe that there is a possibility of its being reopened and while it may prove unpalatable to them to know the worst, it would be better that they should do so, than to have hopes raised that will never be realised.

I can add nothing to the answer I have already given.

Is there any likelihood that this peat fuel factory will be reopened in the present year?

That depends upon a large number of possibilities.

Is not the money that has already been lost on it quite enough?
