Vol. 78 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Kildare Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what lands in the County Kildare are likely to be divided in the near future.

I am not in a position to answer a question of this kind. It is not the practice of the Land Commission to publish particulars of lands which they hope to be able to distribute at an early date, and the Deputy will realise that any attempt to make such a forecast might have undesirable consequences. Hitches of various kinds and delays in obtaining possession of lands for division might easily occur, with resulting disappointment and complaints. Furthermore, the time and labour involved in scrutinising and assembling the various division schemes completed or in course of preparation in a county, would be very considerable and would involve the diversion of staff from the work of land division at a time when that work is most pressing.

Is it not possible to furnish, with the expenditure of a negligible amount of energy, particulars of the estates acquired by the Land Commission in respect of which schemes are already in preparation with a view to division? That is really the purport of the question and there should be no difficulty in supplying that information.

I have nothing to add.
