Vol. 80 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trawler Operations.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether in view of the fact that ten steam trawlers were working from Dublin during the months of October and November last, and only four during the month of March, 1940, he will state the cause of the reduction, what has become of the six trawlers, and whether any immediate increase in the number of trawlers is anticipated.

Of the ten steam trawlers referred to in the question, five were being worked on charter and these vessels were withdrawn when the hirers terminated the charter arrangement. One trawler was lost at sea. There does not appear to be any prospect of an immediate increase in the number of steam trawlers now operating here.
