Vol. 80 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Third Employment (Period) Order.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of persons deprived of unemployment assistance benefit because of the operation of the Third Employment (Period) Order, and if he will also state the number of such persons for whom work was provided through the employment exchanges.

The number of persons whose applications for unemployment assistance have been disallowed by reason of the operation of the Unemployment Assistance (Third Employment Period) Order, 1940, up to and including the 27th July, 1940, is approximately 16,700. During the period from the 3rd June, 1940, to the 27th July, 1940, 9,323 men and 464 women were placed in employment through the local offices of my Department, but separate figures showing the number of these affected by the Unemployment Assistance (Third Employment Period) Order, 1940, are not available.
