Vol. 81 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cottage Repairs (Wexford).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will call for a report from the County Wexford Board of Health on the state of cottage repairs in that county, showing a detailed list of complaints received by the rent collectors or other officials of cottages badly in need of repairs, the dates when these complaints were made, and the action taken on them.

Since the Deputy's last question I have been in communication with the board on this matter. I am informed that 290 cottages have been repaired since November last. Fifty-seven were in course of repair, approval had been given to the repair of a further 60, and 68 remain to be inspected.

I am communicating further with the board on the matter.

Is the Minister aware that they are very slow in repairing some houses which are very much in need of repair? I think the Minister should send down an inspector to see these houses. They are not really fit for human habitation.

I think considerable progress has been made.

I reported over 200, and then I did not report all the houses in the county which are in need of repair. Every house I reported I inspected it.
