Written Answers. - Turf-Cutting Co-operative Societies.
The following statement shows the number of turf societies registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts, 1893 to 1936, at the 31st March, 1940, classified as desired by the Deputy. Membership figures as at the 31st March, 1940, are not available but figures complied from the last return filed by each of the societies with the Registrar of Friendly Societies, are given in the statement. These membership figures take no account of nine inactive societies which had not furnished returns and were still on the register at the 31st March, 1940, pending cancellation of their registry.
