Vol. 82 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rate Collection.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether in view of the stoppage of fairs and markets he will consider the desirability of postponing the closing of the rate collectors' warrants for a period until fairs and markets have been resumed.

I have no doubt that, so far as it may be necessary, county councils will give due consideration to this matter at the appropriate time.

What will be the Department's attitude?

Is the Minister aware that some county councils instituted proceedings against ratepayers to make them pay the second moiety of the rate on the 2nd October? In the normal course of events they would not be asked to pay before 31st March.

That is a matter for the discretion of the county councils.
