asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has seen the statement regarding the oatmeal shortage made by a Wicklow firm of millers in the Irish Times of the 3rd instant; and whether, in view of the shortage of oatmeal and flour, he will consult the Minister for Supplies and the Minister for Justice with a view to having steps taken to collect the oats and wheat which, it is alleged, is being withheld throughout the country.

I am not aware that any substantial quantities of oats or wheat in excess of their own requirements are being withheld from the market by growers. Consequently it is not proposed to take the measures suggested by the Deputy.
