Vol. 88 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies for Hotels and Boarding-Houses.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that there are a number of hotels and guest-houses on the southern seaboard which operate only in the summer holiday season; and if he will make an allocation of tea and kerosene to the owners of such premises; and on what basis will such an allocation be made.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second and third parts of the Deputy's question allocations of tea to such hotels and guest-houses are made on a monthly basis and are restricted to 20 per cent. of their purchases during the year ended 30th June, 1939.

With regard to kerosene, allowances for lighting purposes are made on a limited scale during the summer tourist season, to hotels and guest-houses, whether seasonal or otherwise, which are not connected with a supply of gas or electricity. In the case of users who produce their own lighting by kerosene-driven engines, allowances are based on the horse-power of the engines. Allocations of kerosene for use in oil lamps are made in relation to the extent of the accommodation available for the reception of guests.

Will the Minister make provision for people who had no allocation in June, 1939?

Each case will be considered on the merits.

And according to present requirements?
