asked the Minister for Lands if he will state county by county, and year by year, the number of landless men who were given holdings since 1937, also the latest date on which any such holdings were allotted in the scheduled congested areas; if he will further state the average size of holdings allotted to such persons in the scheduled congested areas.

The answer is in the form of a tabular statement, as follows:—Approximate number of landless men (other than ex-employees on the lands, evicted tenants and cottiers) who have been allotted holdings since 1937 on the division of untenanted land acquired by the Land Commission under the Land Acts, 1923-39.

The latest allotment to a landless man in the scheduled congested districts is recorded as made on 1st April, 1943. The average size of holdings allotted to landless men in the scheduled congested districts during the period 1937 to 1943 was approximately 23 statute acres.
