Vol. 91 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Gas Producer Plant.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state his reasons for refusing to grant permission to the East Inshore Fishing Company, Limited, and to a man named Fallon, of the Hibernian Garage, to exchange a gas producer plant; if he is aware that the reason for the exchange is that the gas producer plant attached to the car Z.E. 5044 is more suitable for the car Z.E. 415; and if, in view of this, he is now prepared to reconsider his decision and allow the exchange to take place.

The East Coast Inshore Fishing Company, Limited, were in possession of the private car Z.E. 415, which was fitted with a gas producer plant prior to the 18th April, 1942, when control of such vehicles was taken under the Emergency Powers (Gas Producer Equipment) Order, 1942. Whilst private motor vehicles so fitted prior to that date were, as a special concession, allowed to continue in operation during the lifetime of the plants then fitted, the subsequent replacement or substitution of these plants by other plants cannot be permitted. I am not prepared to reconsider my decision in the case of this vehicle and allow another gas producer plant to be substituted for the existing plant.
