Vol. 92 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Candles.

asked the Minister for Supplies if an adequate supply of candles will be available this year for Christmas; and if so whether he will take the necessary steps to see that candles available will be distributed fairly around this period, so as to enable poor people to carry out the old and time-honoured custom of placing lighted candles in their windows on the eve of the Nativity.

Owing to the shortage of raw materials for manufacture, the supplies of candles at present available are far from adequate, and there is no prospect of ah improvement in the position. As regards the second part of the question, I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave on the 16th November to a question about the possibility of rationing candles.
