Vol. 92 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission and North Mayo Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is the intention of the Land Commission to resume its normal activities before the emergency officially comes to an end and to secure the return to the Department of officials now on loan to other Departments; and, if so, if he can state when he expects to be able to deal with estates in North Mayo, particularly in those areas where the rundale system still exists and where his Department has long standing commitments.

The curtailment of the normal activities of the Land Commission has not been dictated by policy, but by necessity. I am not in a position at present to say how soon and how far those activities can be resumed. Obviously that must depend to a large extent on how emergency circumstances shape.

The Land Commission are aware of the position in North Mayo and intend to take the earliest available opportunity to deal with the rearrangement of rundale holdings in that area.
