Vol. 92 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Labourer's Cottage.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he has received a report on the condition of the labourer's cottage occupied by Mr. Philip Christie, The Green, Finglas, County Dublin, and his application to have an additional room attached thereto; whether he is aware that the family consists of 11 persons, two of whom are in a precarious state of health, and that the cottage in which they reside contains only two sleeping apartments; and whether, in view of the urgency of the case, he will take steps to ensure that the application for an additional room will receive prompt and sympathetic consideration.

If the facts are as stated the applicant should have made representations to the local authority in the first place. I understand that this has not been done. I cannot take any action in the case until I receive some proposal from the local authority.

Is the Minister aware that the mother of these children died from tuberculosis, and that seven of the children in that family have to sleep in one room, where there is no fireplace?

I am not aware of that. All I am aware of is that the person referred to in the question has not made an application to the local authority.
