Vol. 92 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Subsidy.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state the amount of the flour subsidy paid in the latest 12-month period for which figures or estimates are available, and how this was apportioned as between the different milling firms in receipt of such subsidy.

The amount paid out of public funds during the 12 months ended 30th November, 1943, to subsidise flour was £1,736,368 4s. 10d. Subsidy is not paid direct to flour millers; they obtain imported wheat from Grain Importers (Éire) Limited at such a price as enables them to produce flour at the controlled price. The losses incurred in these transactions by that company are recouped by issues to them from the Vote.
