Vol. 92 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Confiscation of Property at Rosslare.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that citizens of Ireland when returning to their temporary employment in Britain, after the Christmas holidays, had clothing, underwear and shoes which were their personal property confiscated by the Revenue authorities at Rosslare, and whether he is prepared to instruct the Revenue authorities to hand over the property in question to its owners on their return to this country.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, unless there has been a flagrant attempt at evasion, the Revenue Commissioners are prepared to give favourable consideration to an application for the return of seized goods, on condition that no further attempt will be made to export them except under licence.

Will it be necessary for the owner or a relative of the owner to make the application?

Any authorised person.
