Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Production.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in relation to butter (a) the quantity produced by creameries during the month of January, 1944, and the corresponding amount for January, 1943, and January, 1942; (b) the quantity at present in cold store, and the corresponding amount on the same date in January, 1943; (c) the estimated quantity required from now till mid-May, 1944, from cold store.

The quantities of creamery butter produced in the month of January in each of the years 1942, 1943 and 1944 were 7,767 cwts., 5,866 cwts., and 5,901 cwts., respectively.

The total quantities of creamery butter held in cold store on the 31st January, 1943, and 31st January, 1944, were 95,189 cwts. and 91,715 cwts., respectively. It is anticipated that it will be necessary to withdraw all creamery butter at present in cold store by mid-May.

When will there be a hope of an additional allowance in the ration?

Probably when the war is over.
