Vol. 94 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Fence (Meath).

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Mr. John Malone, Newhaggard, Trim, County Meath, whose estate was taken over and divided some years ago by the Land Commission, has made repeated application to have a suitable fence erected between his land and the new farm; that a temporary fence erected by the commission was made out of paling posts of soft timber and has now rotted away, and that Mr. Malone is suffering great inconvenience in confining his stock; and whether he will now see that a proper fence is erected with the least possible delay.

The boundary fence constructed by the Land Commission between the lands retained by Mr. Malone and those taken over and divided by them was made as permanent as possible having regard to the fact that portion of it ran through a wood where the usual sod bank would be impracticable. It is reasonable to suppose that this fence would require some attention since it was constructed about seven years ago, but this maintenance work is a matter not for the Land Commission but for Mr. Malone and his neighbours.
