Vol. 94 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Meals.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has yet sanctioned the Dublin School Meals Committee recommendation of 8th March, 1944, to the effect that jam sandwiches be substituted for cheese sandwiches there days per week to children in schools availing of the benefits of the Schools Meals Act.

The reply is in the negative. Further particulars are being sought from the Corporation of Dublin as to the grounds for the proposed change.

Did the Minister get a reply stating that the school managers have all recommended that too much cheese and two little jam is now being given and would he, in view of the recommendations of the children, their parents, the managers and the School Meals Committee, now sanction an alteration in the arrangement by which jam would be given on three days instead of cheese? A little castor oil is good for children but too much castor oil is bad for them.

Castor oil is not supplied in the schools.
