Vol. 94 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Caretaker's Remuneration.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that sanction was recently refused by his Department to an increase of 5/- to a man who is receiving only 45/- per 72-hour week as caretaker at Killorglin for the County Kerry Vocational Education Committee; and, if so, if he will explain the grounds upon which the increase was vetoed.

A proposal from County Kerry Vocational Education Committee to increase the wages of the caretaker of Killorglin Technical School has not been sanctioned as he is already in receipt of the prevailing rate of wages for corresponding posts elsewhere, namely, £2 per week, plus emergency bonus.

Does the Minister consider that 45/- per week for a 72-hour week is adequate, in view of the fact that 45/- has the purchasing power of only 23/- pre-war?
