Vol. 95 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Wheat.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that owing to the inclement weather very little winter wheat is sown; and if it is his intention to see that a price for spring seed wheat is fixed in keeping with the farmers' abilities to pay for it and with a just ratio with what the farmer receives for his wheat when selling.

I am aware that the recent exceptionally wet weather has greatly interfered with the sowing of winter wheat, but I hope that if conditions improve in the immediate future farmers will take every opportunity of preparing for the sowing of as much winter wheat as possible in January and February.

The maximum prices that may be charged for seed wheat of both winter and spring varieties have already been fixed by the Emergency Powers (Cereals) Order, 1944.
