asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that great hardship has been caused to a large section of the people in North Cork by the closing down of the branch railway lines between (a) Banteer and Newmarket, and (b) Fermoy and Mitchelstown; and, if so, if he will now state if it is proposed to reopen those lines to traffic in the near future.

The supply position does not at present warrant the resumption of the services which have been suspended on the railway lines to which the Deputy refers. Adequate substitute road services are being made available with special provision for live-stock traffic.
