Vol. 96 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Threshing Offal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that in the offal (weed seeds and foreign matter) screened from machines after threshing there is always a percentage of wheat, barley and oats, and that this mixed residue may not be milled for fowl food owing to the presence of a small admixture of inferior wheat grains which the threshing could not remove; and, if so, if he will relax the milling restrictions in such a way as will permit of the treatment by grinding or crushing of such residue for fowl feeding.

The milling of any mixture of cereals which contain wheat is prohibited by the Emergency Powers (No. 165) Order, 1942, as amended. The Order provides, however, that permits for the milling of such mixtures may be issued to licensed millers only. I do not consider it desirable that the Order should be amended to provide for the issue of such permits to other classes of millers.
