Vol. 97 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Delay in Transporting Fish.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that large quantities of mackerel from the Kerry coast have been condemned on arrival at the British markets as a result of transport delays at the Dublin port; that fish arriving in Dublin at 6.30 p.m. or later on any day is not loaded on the boat due to sail that night or early the following day, but remains there for not less than 24 hours; and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that this undue delay is obviated and shipment ensured on the first boat sailing on the day the fish arrives in Dublin.

I am not aware that fish has been condemned on arrival at the markets or that there has been any undue delay at Dublin port. I am advised that mackerel from the Kerry coast reaches Dublin in the morning and that the fish is immediately loaded on to the boat for shipment on the same evening.
