Vol. 97 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone for Dungarvan Presbytery.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the County Manager, County Waterford, has requested sanction for the installation of a telephone in the Presbytery, Dungarvan, to ensure the speedy delivery of urgent messages from the county home and district hospital; and, if so, if he will state if he is prepared to accede to the county manager's request.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Regarding the second part of the question, I am not prepared to approve of the proposal as I do not consider that the expenditure should be a charge on public funds.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the county home is a considerable distance from the Presbytery in Dungarvan——

About half a mile.

——and that very often at night inmates of the county home are sent to the Presbytery in case of a sick call? I should like to ask who will be responsible should anything occur to any person during that particular period at night as a result of an accident—is it the board, or who will be responsible?

I am afraid that is a separate question.

At the same time, it arises.

Not out of my reply.
