Vol. 97 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tully Stud Lands.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is prepared to give favourable consideration to the question of letting portion of the lands at Tully Stud for grazing to cottage tenants at Tully, County Kildare, in order to facilitate the persons concerned in procuring supplies of milk, of which there is an acute shortage in the area.

It has been decided that Tully farm will be used in the future for the purpose of a national stud. Legislation is being prepared which will enable a company to be set up for this purpose and to which Tully Stud Farm will be transferred. The Bill is in course of preparation and will, I hope, be ready shortly for submission to the Oireachtas. In these circumstances, I cannot see my way to arrange for letting portion of these lands for grazing.

Knowing the local difficulties which exist in procuring milk, would it be possible for the Minister to arrange that grazing would be let to cottage-holders on the existing Tully farm pending the handing over of the farm to the new company to be formed?

The Deputy will learn from the answer I gave that that would not be advisable.
