Vol. 97 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Conveyance of School-children.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state what arrangements have been made for the conveyance of school-children from Glenpatrick and Curraghkiely districts to Rathcormack National Schools; or if he will reconsider the erection of a school in Glenpatrick or Curraghkiely.

My Department is prepared to make a grant towards the cost of the operation of a van service for the conveyance of children between six and 14 years of age from the Glenpatrick and Curraghkiely districts to the Rathcormack National Schools, subject to the average daily number of eligible children conveyed being not less than six per quarter. The manager has been advised of the conditions under which the grant will be paid and it is a matter for him to make the necessary arrangements for the operation of the service.

With regard to the second part of the question I have carefully considered the necessity for a new school in the districts mentioned by the Deputy but I am satisfied that the number of children of school-going age in the area is not at present sufficient to warrant the establishment of a new school.
