Vol. 97 No. 21

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Private Flying.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that in other countries the extensive development of private flying is being encouraged; and if he will state what steps will be taken to help the development of private flying in this country.

While private flying must be regarded as a matter for development primarily by private enterprise, steps have been taken to assist it by giving facilities to the Irish Aviation Club at the Dublin and Shannon Airports, and the club is given some financial assistance by Aer Rianta, Tta. A subsidy from State funds is not, however, contemplated.

Will any facilities be afforded to private flyers anxious to purchase aircraft?

I do not know what type of facilities the Deputy has in mind. I imagine that private aircraft are not available for purchase at present.

If they were available, would facilities be given to individuals to purchase them?

There is no restriction on their purchase.
