Vol. 97 No. 21

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Vocational Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the main divisions in which the educational work of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee is carried on, the number of teachers, distinguishing between (a) men, and (b) women, who have not received any increase in salaries or rates of pay since September, 1939.

Of the 418 teachers employed by the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee, a total of 113 teachers, 84 men and 29 women, all of whom are employed on a part-time basis, received no increase in salary or rates of pay since September, 1939. These teachers were ineligible to receive emergency bonus, due to their incomes being in excess of the prescribed ceiling.

How many of those part-time teachers were actually working full-time? The Minister is aware that a person may be described as a part-time teacher but may, for a number of years, have been working full time.

I have not that information at the moment.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the main divisions in which the educational work of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee is carried on (1) the number of pensionable teachers employed; (2) the number of part-time teachers non-pensionable who are working full-time hours; and (3) the number of part-time teachers not working full-time hours who are (a) living solely by teaching, and (b) not so dependent, distinguishing between men and women.

(1) Of the teachers employed by the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee, 97 are pensionable; (2) The number of part-time teachers who are working for 25 hours or more per week is 33; (3) There is no information available officially in regard to part 3 of the Deputy's question.
