Vol. 98 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Holding.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Mr. Michael Fox, of Clonard, Balbriggan, who has a holding of 22 acres on the Murphy estate; Flemingstown, Balbriggan, has made numerous applications to the Land Commission to have a house and out-offices erected on this holding to enable him to utilise the holding to the best advantage; and that Mr. Fox is agreeable to give up his present housing accommodation with a view to living on the land; and, if so, if he will state what action he proposes to take in the matter.

A holding of 23a. 2r. 0p. on the Murphy estate, County Dublin, Record No. S.7543, was allotted under purchase agreement dated 7/1/35, to Michael Fox, a landless man, living in a board of health cottage about one mile from the lands, and the Land Commission proposed to erect for him a house and out-office on the holding. Fox asked to be allowed to erect the buildings himself and the Land Commission agreed. He has not yet done so, though additional financial assistance was offered him in 1938, and he now wants the Land Commission to build the house and out-office for him. The Deputy will be able to contrast the cost of buildings now with what they would have cost in 1935 and will understand the reluctance of the Land Commission to fall in with such a proposal as Fox now makes. However, the matter is being looked into and a decision will be reached as soon as practicable.
