Vol. 98 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Timber Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the great scarcity of housing in Dublin owing to the failure of contractors to secure supplies of timber suitable for the building of houses; and if he will state whether any application has been made or will be made for a share of the large quantity of timber recently secured by timber importers in Great Britain.

I am aware of the scarcity of houses in Dublin and of the difficulties experienced by contractors in securing essential building materials of various kinds, including timber. The Deputy may rest assured that no likely sources of supply are being overlooked.

Has the Minister made any application for a share of the rather large quantity of timber which recently arrived in England?

I think it would be a waste of time.

Will the Minister make application for a share of it?

No. I decline to waste my time making such an application.

When the Minister was in England he might have made the application. I understand that he did good work while there.
