Vol. 98 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dungarvan County Home.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that inmates of the County Home, Dungarvan, are usually sent to the presbytery for a priest when patients are in danger of death, and if he will advise that this practice be discontinued and that an attendant be paid to do such work.

I am not aware of the arrangements which are in force. The matter is one for the county manager and the matron of the institution and no intervention on my part appears to be called for.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary consent to the county manager installing a telephone there?

I could not answer that question in advance of a submission on the matter from the county manager.

An application was made before and it was refused. I raised the question before. The practice is that people from the district hospital or county home are sent for the priest. If an accident occurs who will be responsible?

An accident to whom?

To any of the inmates.

Is the Deputy aware that there are 13 attendants in that institution any of whom might go on a message for a priest?
