Vol. 98 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Christmas Gifts.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his attention had been directed to a statement published in London to the effect that the British Ministry of Food had declined to lift the ban on the sending of food from this country to Great Britain in the form of Christmas gifts; whether, in fact, such a ban exists; and, if so, whether in the event of its being lifted he is prepared to allow residents of this country to send small parcels of food as Christmas gifts to their families and near relatives in Great Britain.

An announcement has recently been made by the British Board of Trade in regard to the importation of gift parcels into Great Britain. This announcement does not, however, affect our position here, which is as stated in my reply to the Deputy's question on the subject on 17th October last.
