Vol. 99 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Profits of Flour Millers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether, through the Prices Branch of his Department or otherwise, he exercises any control over the profits earned by individuals, firms or companies engaged in the manufacture of flour; if so, (1) what is the nature of the control; (2) how is such control exercised; and if he will state whether the profits permitted are related to the turnover or capital employed by each individual, firm or company separately or by reference to the aggregate turnover or capital of all the individuals, firms or companies engaged in flour milling.

The profits of the flour milling industry as a whole are strictly controlled. The industry is allowed an aggregate profit determined by reference to the aggregate capital employed in the industry and the members of the industry agree among themselves as to the manner in which this profit is to be shared among them.
