I regret that it would not be possible to dispose of the Castlebar Military Barracks as suggested.
The barracks are the only local centre with adequate training, billeting and storage facilities and are, therefore, indispensable for the Defence Forces.
Will the Minister agree with me that all of the barracks is not used for the purposes he stated? Will he consider leasing or loaning the unoccupied portion of the barracks to the council for the purpose indicated in the question?
No. The military authorities are averse from parting with any of the property.
