Vol. 99 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sites for County Dublin Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state when it is proposed to hold the public inquiry concerning the compulsory acquisition of sites for the erection of cottages in County Dublin.

Arrangements have been made for the holding of a public local inquiry into the County Dublin County Council Compulsory Purchase (Labourers Acts) Order, 1945, on Monday, 4th February, 1946, at 11 a.m. in the Council Chambers, 11 Parnell Square, Dublin.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the county council are already in possession of various sites in County Dublin which were acquired for the building of labourers' cottages; if he will make arrangements to have these cottages built without delay; and further if he can state when steps will be taken to have these cottages erected.

I am aware that the Dublin County Council are in possession of sites aggregating approximately 36 acres, for the erection of some 193 labourers' cottages. These sites have been included in a comprehensive scheme, for the erection of 1,316 cottages, which has been formulated by the county commissioner. A compulsory purchase Order for the acquisition of the additional land required for the scheme has been made and submitted to my Department, and a public local inquiry into the Order will be held on the 4th February, 1946.

No steps can be taken in respect of the erection of the bulk of the cottages until a decision on the Order is reached. I understand that the preparation of plans is proceeding.

Eight cottages are at present being erected by the council at Bohernabreena, the tender for this work having been approved by my Department on the 7th August, 1945.
