Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Revenue of Local Authorities.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state in relation to Table 4 of the "Tables in Connection with the Financial Statement, 1945" how the figures (a) £13,471,000, and (b) £13,751,000, given as net expenditure from revenue of local authorities, and (c) £4,531,000, and (d) £5,081,000, given as the amount of such revenue derived from Government grants in the years 1941-1942 and 1942-1943, respectively, have been arrived at, and if he will state the comparable figures for each of the years ended 31st March, 1931 and 1932.

The amounts referred to include Government grants to vocational education committees and county committees of agriculture. The net revenue expenditure of the local authorities to which the annual local taxation returns relate includes the payments by local authorities out of rates to these committees. In 1941-42 the Government grants to these committees amounted to £475,000 and in 1942-43 to £511,000.
