Vol. 100 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Fund Payments to Dublin Corporation.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the date and the amount of the last payment made from the Road Fund to the Dublin Corporation; the date and the amount of the next payment to be made; and if, in view of the fixing of the city rates at an early date, he will make the grant available now.

The last Road Fund payments to Dublin County Borough Council were made on the 15th January, 1943. These payments amounted to £5,000, and represented balances of 1940-41 improvement grants.

Sums aggregating £4,300, representing the balance of the 1939-40 improvement grant in respect of three improvement works are outstanding and will be paid when the final documents giving details of the completed works are furnished by the County Borough Council.

Would the Minister not consider the giving of a substantial grant from the Road Fund to the corporation, in view of the enormous works they have to undertake—a grant of £40,000 or £60,000 which would relieve the rates somewhat?

I cannot say anything about the question as to whether the grants will be substantial, but a request has been received from the city manager in the matter of future road grants and is under consideration.

We will be made aware of it at an early date, I hope?
