asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the very unsatisfactory postal delivery in Baltimore district, Sherkin Island and Cape Clear Islands; that portion of the mails for these districts is conveyed from Skibbereen to Baltimore, a distance of nearly nine miles, by a pedal cyclist; that portion of the mail is occasionally conveyed by train and is not delivered until the following day; and if, as these are important fishing centres, he will see that the residents are given a proper and satisfactory mail service.

Correspondence for these districts circulates on Skibbereen, and arrives there at 9.5 p.m. and 10.45 a.m.
The 9.5 p.m. arrival is despatched to Baltimore by cycle postman early next morning—no other means of transport being available. Delivery is effected on arrival.
The 10.45 a.m. mail is forwarded to Baltimore by 12 noon train each weekday and is ready for callers at 12.30 p.m.
The service appears to be reasonably satisfactory having regard to present transport facilities and there has been no recent complaint. The position is kept constantly under review and any opportunity is availed of to improve the service.
